Hi, welcome to my website!
My name is Paula and I am a certified Doula (or childbirth companion). I completed my training to become a certified labour Doula in 2006. I live in Milnerton, Cape Town with my wonderful family and various pets and have always had a keen interest in pregnancy and birth - even before I became a mum myself.
I have chosen to become a Doula because I want to help other mums achieve a positive and memorable birth experience.
Labour and birth is hard work! It tests your strength, patience and determination. It is considerably easier to do with the continuous support and guidance of a professional childbirth companion.
I have a Diploma in Psychology and a Certificate in the Human Experience of Pain from Stonebridge Associated Colleges (United Kingdom). I have also completed a Breastfeeding Management course with the Breastfeeding Association (South Africa) that is endorsed by UNICEF/WHO.
I am also a member of the Tableview
La Leche League.
The Johnson and Johnson Doula training course I attended was facilitated by Irene Bourquin who is a S.A. registered Nurse and Midwife, and an Internationally Certified Childbirth and Postnatal Educator (ICCE).
I have
recently been elected as the
WOMBS* chairperson for the Western Cape. My
term of office runs until September 2008.
